Yvonne Dollard greeted me at my car as I arrived…a charming welcome from an equally charming lady! This nonagenarian shares her home with Dundee, a “marmalade cat,” so named for a brand of English marmalade. Yvonne and Dundee lost their Wheaten Terrier and are still adjusting to the change that brought to their lives. After growing up in Chicago suburbs, Yvonne enjoyed an interesting career as an opera singer. She made her debut with the San Francisco Opera Company when the star was well-known Wagnerian singer, Kirsten Flagstad. Yvonne also appeared in several Gilbert and Sullivan shows in New York City. Vocal problems forced Yvonne to give up her career. Remarried and living in New York, she modeled for Bergdorf Goodman for 5 years. She and her third husband moved to Sarasota 20 years ago, where she still lives. Handsome Dundee was rescued with his litter mates behind a Sarasota library by a veterinarian, and Yvonne adopted the little orange and white baby. One of the best parts of delivering the pet gift baskets each month is that I have the opportunity to meet so many interesting people. Yvonne Dollard is certainly one of them!
