Insulin Product for Use with Injection Pen Approved by FDA

May 1, 2014

Great news for those whose dogs or cats are diabetic! The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of an insulin injection pen for these pets. Vetsulin, a porcine insulin, may now be used with the VetPen automatic injection pen.

Vetsulin was removed from the market in 2011 because of problems with manufacturing. Since returning to the market in 2013, the FDA has continued to monitor its use. The most common side effect is low blood sugar.

Speak to your veterinarian about Vetsulin and whether it would be viable for your dog or cat. The VetPen would certainly make injections much easier.
