Is Pet Insurance Needed for your Pet?

October 13, 2012

Are your pets covered with health insurance?  If not, perhaps you should investigate the various companies selling it.  Our Weimaraner, Gator, has been covered since he was a puppy because the breed is prone to joint injuries.  If you aren’t familiar with Weimie’s, they can be walking or standing nicely and then turn on a dime and take off at break-neck speed when they see something that resembles prey.  Might just be a leaf blowing in the breeze, but a playful Weimaraner envisions something much more interesting.  This instantaneous turn and twist can result in torn ACL joints.  We decided not to take chances and took out a health insurance policy on our pet.

We began with one company and switched to another.  There are many choices and I’m sure most of them are just fine.  I absolutely love Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation because they support animal welfare.  They don’t just “talk the talk;” they “walk the walk,” as the saying goes.

When someone requests an insurance quote, the company makes a donation to one of the animal welfare groups they support.  When a person actually signs up for a policy, they donate again.  I like knowing that I can help pay for medical care for homeless dogs, as is the mission for Healthy Paws.

The two founders of the company met while volunteering at a shelter in Seattle.  When they decided to form their business, they made the commitment to continue their passion for helping homeless animals by including it in the new pet insurance company.  Over the last year, they donated funds for grants to 65 different animal shelters across the United States.

Premiums for pet insurance are based on the animal’s age and overall health.  The older the dog or cat, the higher the premium.  Some companies do not cover pre-existing conditions and others do.  It’s important to research each company’s plans to see what works best for your pet.  Then consider how it fits with your budget.

Some plans cover a small percentage of annual exams and vaccinations.  Others, like Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation, advertise that they cover 90% of your vet bills.

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation is an affiliate partner of Seniors for Pets.  If anyone purchases insurance through the company’s links on this website, Seniors for Pets will benefit from it.  This is a disclaimer of sorts, but I prefer to think of it as a wonderful opportunity for you readers to support SFP.

How You Can Help a Homeless Pet in 60 Seconds!
Thanks to their experience on the front lines of rescuing homeless animals and helping to place them in happy homes the pet passionate team at Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation knows that homeless pets often need medical care before having a chance at being adopted into a caring family.

With the aim of providing this essential care to animals in need the organization has established its homeless pet medical grants fund, which is supported by the Every Quote Gives Hope™ program. Through this program the simple act of requesting a quote from Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation results in a donation towards a homeless pet’s medical care.

In just 60 seconds you can request a quote from Healthy Paws and help a homeless pet! With all the joy our pets bring to our homes, this is a great way to give back and help more pets find their forever homes. But the regrettable reality is that most canine breeds are prone to various of these
circumstances, and cure can value up to $10,000.
They are loyal to their families and although they nevertheless act as guardians
for lots of households, they are sweet tempered and are not at all intense.
